Blenheim Place has partnered up with Cherwell Collective, Oxford’s hub for Sustainable Fashion Week (20th to 29th September 2024), to debut an interactive exhibition which examines the impact of fast fashion as well as a live runway show.
From Monday 23rd to Friday 27th September between 10am and 5pm at The Stables Café in Blenheim Palace, visitors can experience the Carbon Cost of Fashion exhibition chronicling the impact of fast fashion. Complete with mannequins and hands-on elements, the unique exhibition showcases the stages of textile production and industry through the ages, whilst educating visitors on why change is needed and our part in how these challenges can be solved. Carbon Cost of Fashion uses immersive storytelling and an easy-to-understand Carbon Cost approach to help people understand the environmental repercussions of fast fashion and be guided towards sustainable alternatives.
What’s more, a sustainable fashion runway evening will also feature that week on Tuesday 24th September in the Orangery at Blenheim Palace from 7.30pm to 10pm. This is a ticketed event that will showcase more than 20 local designers, including Oxfam, who have created sustainable outfits. Materials used include recycled materials or upcycled clothes that have been reworked and refashioned. The show aims to celebrate local innovation and artistry in rethinking materials to divert them from landfills, and is set to be a joyous evening with music and food alongside the main entertainment.
Reinforcing the creative nature of the show, Cherwell Collective have encouraged guests to follow a “dress to progress” dress code.
Event producer Anna Sturrock said: “We are so excited to showcase these incredible local designers. It's incredible to see the diversity of work created and how everyone has taken on totally different approaches to sustainability. It really shows that there are thousands of ways to be more sustainable when it comes to fashion!”
Carbon Cost of Fashion is a temporary exhibition inside the Stables Café. Admission is free with any valid Blenheim Palace ticket or annual pass.
